Pole bean Spagna Bianco = White Spanish. (Phaseolus vulgaris). Grows 7-8 feet. Good production of fresh shell or dry beans. Produces green flat pods 5-9 inches long with 5-6 huge white seeds. Makes great soup or the perfect contorno. If you pick them small (five inches or so) before they swell up, you can eat them whole as a green bean. Excellent flavor. 80 to 100 days for full size. Pole beans have approximately 1 seed per gram.

Cipollata di Bianchi di Spagna
Wonderful bean, one problem is finding poles long enough to acommodate the growth, well over the 7-8 feet mentioned in the product review. Whilst a student in Bologna I frequented a ristorante under the Due Torre that served the Bianchi di Spagna (simmered till al dente)then mixed with chunky tuna fish, thinly sliced red onions, plenty of evoo, salt, pepper, and a liberal dousing of fresh lemon juice. Buon Appetito!
