Bella di Notte - Four O'Clocks (306-1)
Bella di Notte (Four O'Clocks). A charming garden flower that was popular in the past but is rarely seen today. The flowers stay closed during the day, then open wide in late afternoon, hence its common name. Incredibly fragrant. Attracts hummingbirds and moths. Tender perennial. 24” tall (70 cm).
Start seed indoors and transplant at 9” spacing. The tuberous roots can be dug in fall, stored dry and replanted the next year. However, the roots and seeds contain a toxin and should be handled with care. Some people may experience mild dermatitis from handling the roots. 5 gram pack. Approx. 70 seeds.
Species name: Mirabilis jalapa L.
