Must grow more next year.
grew these in a large pot, and i've been harvesting them, a few at a time, for most of a year. their flavor is nice--not too sharp, but some heat with the sweet. i love to slice them onto pizza, or into a salad. lovely light purple color, not too big so you don't have to refrigerate half an onion.
Grew well in Midwest. Was larger than I expected - I had some reach 6+ inches and quite heavy. Market customers raved about them and bought them as fast as I brought them to market. I bunched them when they were a little younger and fresh, but they sold well dried down too and stored decently. Are sweet, but have some pungency to finish.
We grew this in our backyard in Pasadena California last year, and it was one of the best producers for our area compared to onion varieties we have tried in previous years. I think this type is better adapted to our soil type, which tends to harden over the growing season.
This year we are currently planting Lunga di Firenze along with Tropea Rossa Tonda so I will report back about which one performs better!
I harvested many uniform beautiful torpedos. I am in a day neutral area and these onions performed very well for us.
This is a sweet onion.
