I have been growing Zucchino Nero Di Milano for many years with great success. I start seeds indoors in late March then transplant outside a month later. I plant 3 seedings in a row spaced about 2-3 feet apart in a small mound. A little cow manure mixed with some soil at the bottom of the hole gives the squash a kick when the roots dig deep. I roll the entire row with black garden plastic to help heat up the soil, control weeds and keep slugs away. I inspect the underside of the leaves for other pests. I'll get some early fruit and pick to jump-start the season but then squash comes fast once the Jersey heat and humidity kick in. Pick squash when about 12" long. Don't blink or they will grow the size of your forearm. They are great stuffed with meat and rice or spiralize like pasta with some marinara sauce.
I didn't have enough room in my garden for more zucchini, so when I got these seeds I planted them outside my garden in regular dirt and I couldn't believe with a little fertilizer, they grew into beautiful strong plants. The plant produced very nice zucchini and very tasty. The other plants I planted (I bought already grown) have died, but these plants are still producing. Will be back for more next season.
