Over the years and yes, decades, I've had many favorite genovese basils, but this one stands out above them all. I trialed it last year and grew it along with my then favorite, a variety called San Remo, and I didn't touch the latter, using only the Tigullio all summer long! Why? Because it simply smelled and tasted the best! Of course it's an impossibility to describe tastes and so I won't try. But this one is, I think, the real thing, even named after an old tribe that lived in the area. A long, long history, favor/aroma that seems to come from some other, heavenly world, and quite prolific . . . what more could you want?
